Day 2

Trek from Janglik to Dayara Thatch (3465m, 5 hrs)

On the second day, we start our trek and as we walk towards our next destination, we are gifted by the pleasures of greens, but in varied shades. A typical Himalayan trek through the high rising conifers and small openings in the thick and thin forest, following up the Pabbar River. You cross few shepherds’ hut on the way to Dayara thatch.

Dayara is a beautiful expanse of loft green meadow in the valley encircled sparsely by conifers. The flock of sheep grazing around with humps of mountains rising high on both the sides make it a picturesque location. It is early in the season and snow can add a different element of beauty to the sight. This in itself makes for a perfect campsite.

We spend the rest of the day exploring the site and soaking in the view, through our eyes and camera. Do have a conversation with the shepherds you meet. It will enlighten you a lot on their perspective of the world.

Accommodation: Tents at Dayara Thatch

Day 3

Trek from Dayara Thatch to Litham Thatch (3600m, 3 hrs)

A short day today but a beautiful one. We start lazily and would like to reach our next campsite for lunch. We follow the Pabbar River with a constant view of the mighty Gunas pass ahead of us. A gentle traverse on the grassy mountain with mixed climb on the meadow through occasional forests and multiple stream crossing brings us to the Litham thatch.

You have rest of the day to enjoy at your own leisure. This will be our campsite for the 2 nights and plays a very important role in the better acclimatization for successful crossing of the Barua Pass.

Accommodation: Tents at Litham Thatch

Day 4

Explore Chandranahan Lake (4024m, 6 hrs)

The next day early morning, we start our trek to explore the other valley on our left towards Chandranahan Lake. Chandranahan is a lake system fed by glacier and underground spring water. It is a very pious place for the locals and legend has it that the local God of Rohru - Shikru Devta is supposed to have taken birth here. As per the rule, we are not supposed to venture closer to the lake with shoes or slippers, or wearing any other leather item.

The stream originating from the lake is a tributary of the Pabbar and is also named as Chandranahan nala. The trek up is a good one and early in May it can have a good amount of snow cover. Otherwise, it is a walk up on a moderately rough terrain with occasional flat meadows, requiring crossing streams multiple times. Snow covers the lake, but if the same is thin, you can see up to 3 lakes, which are not too big or deep either.

We return back to Litham for the evening.

Accommodation: Tents at Litham Thatch

The long Meadows with Herds will definitely stole your heart. We spend the rest of the day exploring the site and soaking in the view, through our eyes and camera. Do have a conversation with the shepherds you meet. It will enlighten you a lot on their perspective of the world.
